A Unifying Enlightenment : Institutions of Political Economy in Eighteenth-Century Spain (1700-1808)

The book offers an account of the economic institutions of eighteenth century Spain, analysing their fundamental role in spreading European Enlightenment culture and in the political unification and articulation of the Spanish monarchy.

Jesus Astigarraga is a Full Professor at the University of Zaragoza (Spain). Ph.D. in Economics (1991) and Ph.D. in History (2015). He is author or editor of twelve books, notably: Los ilustrados vascos (Critica, 2003); Luces y Republicanismo (CEPC, 2011); LEconomie Politique et la sphere publique dans les debats des Lumieres (Casa de Velazquez, 2013), with J. Usoz; The Spanish Enlightenment Revisited (Voltaire Foundation, 2015) and A Unifiying Enlightenment. Institutions of Political Economy in Eighteenth-Century Spain (Brill, 2021). He has published in journals such as EJHET, JHET, HEI, History of European Ideas or Revista de Historia Economica.
